Srinagar, Feb 8: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) on Wednesday said that areas where meters and new LTAP wire have been installed are receiving unscheduled power cuts, and no complaints of low-voltage have been received from these areas.
Chief Engineer KPDCL Er. Javid Yousuf told Rising Kashmir that so far, the corporation has installed around 72,000 smart meters in Srinagar city, and another 3.5 lakh meters are being installed in the city for which work is in full swing.
According to the officer, since the installation of these meters and LTAP cables, no complaints of low voltage or power outages have come from these localities, and illegal hooking is entirely under control there.
Once the LTAP and smart meters are implemented, the officials claim, the power situation will significantly change. He further asserted that when the LTAPs wire was installed, there were no prospects of hooking up.
After the installation of smart meters, the department claims there are no additional costs for power units. The power shedding and restriction schedule will finally come to an end thanks to these meters, which have made the staff’s jobs easier, he said.
According to the officials, it used to take time for the employees to check the readings by travelling from meters to meter. However, after the installation of smart meters, tempering would cease and the readings would be automatically sent to the data centre.
Under the direction of the central government, these smart meters are being deployed all over the country.
