JAMMU, Apr 03: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday recovered a big consignment of arms and ammunition suspected to be drone dropped near RakhBarotia village in Vijaipur area of Samba District in Jammu region.
Three Pistols, 4 grenades, 6 magazines and 48 rounds were recovered by Samba Police after getting the information through its sources about the consignment sealed in a packet in RakhBarotia Village near the railway line, SSP Samba, Benam Tosh informed.
The SSP also said that whether the consignment was dropped by drone or some local smugglers are involved in this is all being probed.
“An FIR has been registered and investigation started into the matter,” the SSP informed Rising Kashmir, while adding, “As of now, there are no suspects and hence no arrest has been made”.
The area from where the arms and ammunition were recovered today is very close to both AIIMS, coming up at Vijaipur, as also the National Highway. The timely recovery of arms and ammunition, therefore, has averted a major tragedy, Police said.
“Whether the consignment was dropped by drone or some smugglers are involved in this is premature to say at this stage as it is a matter of investigation which is going on,” SSP Samba said, while adding, “This could also possibly be related to terrorist activities as the recovery has been made near AIIMS and close to the National Highway,” the SSP said.
The International Border (IB) is also not too far from the area where the arms and ammunition were recovered
