Srinagar, June 7, 2023 – The Srinagar Smart City Limited is making remarkable strides in enhancing the appeal of Srinagar through its restoration and conservation efforts on the heritage ghats along the picturesque River Jhelum.
Under the ambitious Srinagar Smart City Project, the CEO of Smart City, Athar Aamir Khan, has revealed that the restoration work on 19 ghats in the old city is nearing completion. This initiative aims to revive these important public spaces, reconnect the city with the river, and develop infrastructure to support water transport.
The revitalization and preservation efforts of the heritage ghats are not only set to enhance the beauty of the River Jhelum but also make them captivating for both locals and tourists. The CEO expressed confidence that once the restoration work is finished, these ghats will become attractive landmarks in the city.
The recently unveiled riverfront, executed as part of the Smart City project, has already begun offering a delightful experience to visitors, quickly gaining popularity among both residents and tourists alike.
Highlighting the significance of preserving Srinagar’s heritage sites, the CEO emphasized the ongoing efforts to renovate them. Several heritage sites have already been successfully restored in the past, and the remaining projects are expected to be completed in the near future.
The conservation and restoration of the heritage ghats along the River Jehlum are part of a broader vision to revitalize Srinagar and enhance its cultural significance. By investing in these projects, the Srinagar Smart City Limited aims to preserve the city’s rich history and improve public spaces.
These comprehensive efforts are anticipated to contribute to the overall development and attractiveness of Srinagar, transforming it into a more vibrant and sustainable city for both its residents and visitors.
