In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Department of Physical Education and Sports at Govt Degree College Baramulla, in collaboration with the NCC Unit, organized a one-day self-defence program aimed at raising awareness about gender discrimination and empowering female students to protect themselves.

The event was inaugurated by Prof Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, HOD Physics and staff secretary of the college, along with Prof. Nawshad Ahmad Wani, Coordinator IQAC of the college, and Prof. Nuzhat Jabeen, HOD Botany and Convener of Women Development Committee.

In their address, the speakers emphasized the importance of treating women equally and respectfully, and motivated the NCC cadets and girls to become self-dependent in every situation and place.

Dr. Lt. Tanveer Ahmad Bhat, Convenor Sports and HOD of Physical Education & Sports, conducted the proceedings of the event and thanked all the girls students and NCC cadets for their overwhelming participation and assistance in making the event a grand success.

Expert trainers Musharraf Qayoom, Aamir Hassan, Tawkeer Banday, Sana Jana, and Nafeesa Bhat gave demonstrations of basic self-defence techniques to protect and defend oneself in times of danger.

The event concluded with Kouser Ul Hassan presenting a vote of thanks, and the staff secretary encouraging the HOD Physical Education & Sports to organize such sports activities on a regular basis, promising to put the college on the sports calendar of the state and country in a big way.
