Pulwama, May 26: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) conducted a successful walkathon in the saffron town of Pampore in Pulwama district, South Kashmir, on Friday. The event aimed to encourage physical fitness among school students and served as the concluding celebration for our country’s G20 presidency in the zone.
Officials from DYSS informed that all schools in the main town participated in the Walkathon. The event commenced at Valley Model School Frestabal and concluded at Iqbal Sports Stadium in Tanchibagh area.
Over 400 boys and girls enthusiastically took part in the event, which was flagged off by the esteemed Block Development Officer Pampore, serving as the chief guest for the occasion.
Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZPEO) of Pampore, Masrat Hussain Andrabi, mentioned that numerous events had already been organized in connection with the celebrations of our country’s G20 presidency. He emphasized that this Walkathon served as the concluding event in the zone and witnessed active participation from students of various government and private schools in the town.
“The primary objective is to instill discipline among students and promote their physical and mental well-being,” stated Masrat Hussain Andrabi.
He also expressed his gratitude to BDO Pampore Mohammad Ashraf, ZEO Pampore Abdul Rasheed, SHO Pampore Syed Akeel Shah, and others for their invaluable support in organizing this program.
The participating students were thrilled with the event. A student from Valley Model School mentioned that participating in the Walkathon made her feel good, as walking improves blood circulation and offers various health benefits. She further added that the event would raise awareness among the general public regarding India’s G20 presidency and its agenda for the tenure.
