Srinagar, July 31: In a major breakthrough against terror-related activities, security forces on Monday prevented an untoward incident from happening by discovering and diffusing an Improvised explosive device (IED) found in a suspicious bag along Srinagar-BaramullaNational Highway near the Zangamflyover in north Kashmir’s Pattan area.
A senior Army officer told Rising Kashmir that following the discovery of a suspicious bag, traffic along the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway was suspended on Monday morning and Police teams rushed to the spot.
“Gauging the situation and keeping in mind the safety of people, Traffic was immediately stopped and the area was cordoned off by security forces. Bomb disposal team was called to the site and the presence of IED was confirmed by the Explosive Detection dog,” he said.
The officer said a team of police, 29RR and CRPF rushed to the spot after a suspicious bag was found on Srinagar National Highway in Baramulla following which the Bomb Disposal Squad had been called up to ascertain the object. On checking, it was found to be an IED which was diffused without causing any damage, he said.
The traffic on the highway resumed within 2 hours. He said alertness and swift action of security forces averted any kind of mishap and prevented any disruption to routine lives.
