A leopard was successfully captured alive in tAndergam village of Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday, according to a wildlife Department official.
Javid Ahmad, a wildlife Department official said that the leopard was captured after the department received a call about its presence in the Andergam area of Pattan.
“Soon after getting the information, the leopard was captured without causing any damage or injury to anyone. It took us around 2 hours to tranquilize the leopard,” he said.
He said that the leopard was hiding in a house basement in Andergam locality of Pattan.
A forest official said the leopard was taken to a safe location and set free.
Officials said that the leopard was earlier roaming in residential areas of Pattan posing a threat to the lives of people and their livestock.
“We had received a call regarding the leopard roaming in the Wussan area of Pattan a few days ago,” he added.
