JAMMU Feb 12: The massive lithium reserves of around 5.9 million tonnes discovered in Reasi District of Jammu region are spread across an area of approximately one hundred and twenty kanals (120), and this Lithium reserve in J&K is most likely to increase further as the Geological Survey of India (GSI) has decided to explore this possibility in the adjoining areas of Reasi where this non-ferrous metal has been discovered, according to official sources.
“So far, huge Lithium reserves discovered in J&K’s Reasi District have been spread over an area of around 120 kanals in Reasi, but there is every possibility that these reserves could increase further as GSI has decided to further explore its possibility in the adjoining areas where Lithium has been discovered,” Secretary, Geology and Mining, Amit Sharma told Rising Kashmir.
Sharma added, “The GSI has advised that there is every prospect of further Lithium reserves in the adjoining areas where it has been identified in Reasi,” indicating that the exploratory work will begin soon once the G-3 study is done.
Lithium, also known as white gold, has been found in the populated Salal Damman area of Reasi.
The Lithium found in J&K will not only give a mammoth economic boost to this UT but will also open up flood gates of employment for the youth of J&K.
The Secretary said that J&K will be on the world map now and it will soon export Lithium to most of the countries across the world which will not only boost the economy of J&K in a big-2 way  through royalty after e-auctioning but will also boost economy of the country as well.
So far we had been importing Lithium from various countries to meet our requirements and now India will soon become a leading exporter of the Lithium as huge reserves have been found in Reasi.
This is for the first time that Lithium reserves have been found in India and that too in J&K. So far India had been importing Lithium to meet its requirements.
