Experts at SKUAST-K prog ask farmers to adopt newer technologies

Srinagar, Aug 03: The experts at the Scientist Farmer Interface organised by SKUAST-K stressed on adoption of newer technologies by farmers for rearing maximum benefits in soil, plant, animal, water and human health.
In the event organized at the Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-K on Thursday here, the chief guest was Dr Parvender Sheoron, Director Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone-I, Ludhiana, while the guest of honour was Prof Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension SKUAST-K.
The programme was attended by the scientists of Directorate of Extension, Programme Coordinators of KVK Budgam and KVK Srinagar, Master Trainers and Participants of DAESI and Pashu Sakhis under training in Directorate.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Parvender Sheoron emphasized the role of applying scientific knowledge in agricultural fields. Keeping in view the most rainfed area of J&K UT, he impressed upon the participants for the implementation of the awareness provided in the programme to get benefitted and asked the participants to play their role in improving agriculture and its related fields. “The Directorate of Extension should conduct bimonthly and monthly meetings with line departments and create a plate form for Extension Specialists of various districts and prioritize the areas of our goal,” he said.
Dr Sheoron advised coordinating all the efforts as SKUAST-K has already got a good ranking. He appreciated the role of Director Extension for the day-to-day activities of Directorate of Extensionm and briefed the audience and stressed upon them to take advantage of ICAR-Amazon marketing MOU.
Prof Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi in his address said the university is always available for empowering the farmers with the latest scientific techniques and practices for increasing their productivity. He said that the productivity of rice, pulses, milk and other crops has increased manifold with the implementation of scientific agricultural practices by the farmers.
Prof Makhdoomi also briefed about the importance of the adoption of newer technologies by farmers for rearing maximum benefits in soil, plant, animal, water and human health. He elaborated on the achievements of the tour conducted by Director ATARI.
During the programme, a demonstration was presented on Bho Pershak and a documentary of success stories of entrepreneurs was displayed for the information of participants. On the occasion, two publications were also released by the chief guest.
