Calls TET Issue Unjust, Assures Full Government Support

Srinagar, May 31: Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister on Sunday said there is no immediate proposal to announce summer vacations for schools in Kashmir division as weather conditions in the Valley remain normal at present.

Speaking to reporters in south Kashmir the minister said the government has already ordered closure of schools and higher educational institutions in the Jammu summer zone due to extreme heat conditions, but the situation in Kashmir is different.

“The temperature in Jammu is exceptionally high, which is why vacations were announced there. At present, the weather in Kashmir is fine and there is no immediate need to close schools here,” she said.

Her remarks come amid growing demand from students and parents in Kashmir seeking early summer vacations due to rising daytime temperatures in some parts of the Valley.

The minister said the government is continuously monitoring the situation and any decision regarding school closures in Kashmir will be taken according to weather conditions and the welfare of students.

Sakeena Itoo also spoke on the Teacher Eligibility Test, TET, issue and said the government is committed to providing relief to teachers. She said the Law Department has granted sanction for filing a review petition before the Supreme Court and the matter is expected to be taken up in the coming week.

The minister termed the issue genuine and said teachers who have served for decades should not be forced to sit for examinations again..
