Baramulla, June 11: Residents of Baramulla’s old town have expressed their dissatisfaction with the sudden withdrawal of specialist doctors’ services at the Urban Training Health Centre (UTHC), Baramulla.
The removal of these doctors has caused distress among patients and has sparked strong resentment among the local population.
Earlier the deployment of specialists in various fields such as general medicine, pediatrics, dermatology, and other areas had been widely applauded by the locals, who had long advocated for improved healthcare services at the facility.
However, the sudden withdrawal of these doctors without any apparent reason has left the people of the Old Town area of Baramulla dismayed.
Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, the President of the Auqaf committee, expressed his disappointment, questioning the authorities, “Doesn’t the health of the people in Old Town matter? It is disheartening to see this decision made without any accountability or concern for our well-being.”
The densely populated Old Town Baramulla had been clamouring for enhanced health services at the Urban Training Health Centre, which had seen a surge in patients ever since the specialist doctors were deployed.
However, the locals said that the sudden withdrawal has dealt a significant blow to the people in the area.
Tariq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Mohalla Mir Sahib, shared his disappointment, recounting his recent visit to the center.
“I visited the center yesterday to have my five-year-old son checked by the pediatrician. To my dismay, I was informed that the concerned doctor is no longer available at the center,” he added.
Tariq Ahmad further emphasized that the presence of specialist doctors had greatly benefited the local population.
“The withdrawal decision has caused immense hardship for the people of Old town. The authorities must appoint the specialist doctors at the hospital for the good of people,” he further added.
The GMC Baramulla authorities had extended additional services to the center but later decided to withdraw them.
Dr. Rubi Reshi, Principal of Government Medical College Baramulla assured the public that the specialist doctors’ services would be resumed soon.
“Once the administrative control of the center is granted, the services will be resumed,” she added.
