Anantnag, July 09: The incessant rainfall has led to flash floods and extensive waterlogging in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday.
The sudden rise in water levels on Saturday in Bringi, and Sandran Nallah triggered flash floods in Zadoora, Muniwar, Hanji Danter, Baagi Nowgam, Brinty Batapora, and Dehruna.
While incessant rainfall caused water-logging in Anantnag town including including the Sports Stadium Anantnag, Byepass Road, Qamrazibagh, SK Colony, Qazibagh, Anchidora,Mehndi Kadal, Dantur, Pushwara, Lalun Ganoor, Anzwala, Old KMD Adda, Aang, Bangi Nowgam, General Bus Stand, Ashajipora, Dangerpora, DC Colony, Mominabad, Ganjiward, Naibasti, and Laizbal and other adjacent colonies.
Responding promptly to the crisis, District Administration Anantnag has been actively involved in the relief efforts. A dedicated team has been deployed to combat the water logging situation in the district.
Motor pumps were swiftly employed in various locations to log out water, resulting in a significant decrease in water levels.
CEO Municipal Council Anantnag , Showkat Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that they mobilized its resources and initiated water drainage operations in multiple severely affected areas including Ashajipora, Byepass Road, Qamrazibagh Dangerpora, DC Colony, Mominabad, Ganjiward, Naibasti, Lazibal etc, witnessed concentrated efforts to drain the water. As a result, approximately 80% of the accumulated water has been successfully logged out from these locations.
However, the restoration of normalcy and complete removal of waterlogging in few areas remain ongoing challenges.
An official from District Administration Anantnag said that one of the crucial steps taken by the authorities was the commencement of restoration work through the diversion of the Gadool nallah at Frimhoo.
“We have mobilized our resources and are working tirelessly to address the aftermath of the flash floods in affected areas. The safety and well-being of our citizens are of utmost importance to us, and we are committed to ensuring that normalcy is restored as quickly as possible,” he said.
He said that the incessant rainfall also caused drinking water shortage in Kapran village of Anantnag , however the administration took immediate action to address the disrupted water supply caused by the flash floods. Tankers were deployed in the Kapran area, ensuring that the residents had access to safe drinking water during this challenging time.
“Everything under control in respect of canals of irrigation division Anantnag,” official said , adding that water level in Vishaw Nallah , Jhelum and its tributaries recedes on Sunday which brings sigh of relief to the people.
