MERC organises 2-day research orientation programme

Srinagar, May 31: A two-day research orientation programme organised by Media Education Research Centre (MERC), University of Kashmir concluded here on Wednesday.
During the programme, multiple sessions were held on different research methods, techniques and tools. The experts had animated interaction with research scholars and students of the Centre and discussed important methodological issues researchers in social sciences.
Speaking about Data analysis for Social Sciences, Dr Shahid Lone, Assistant Professor, MIT World Press University, Mumbai stressed on research-based policy interventions. He discussed the quantitative techniques and data analysis techniques specifically relevant to social science research.
Prof Sumeer Gul from the Department of Library and Information Sciences, University of Kashmir shared  inputs on  citation styles and their application in writing research papers and thesis. He emphasized the importance of awareness of copyright in academic writing.
Dr Idhrees Kanth, Assistant Professor, Sheikh-ul-Alam Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies, University of Kashmir interacted with scholars on the topic “Using Archival Resources and Historical Methods in Research.” During the session, Dr. Kanth gave a talk on the significance of historical and archival methods in modern research. He also focused on various techniques in academic writing.
Prof Sabeha Mufti, Head, MERC stated that the  orientation programme was organised to impart new techniques and knowledge about latest methodologies used in  research. “This would enable our researchers to make their research more valid and reliable,” she said.
“What especially stood out for me was that the sessions were interactive which made the experience more enriching and impactfulm” said a senior research scholar, Aadil Bakshi.
The session was attended by media students, research scholars and faculty members of the Centre including Prof Aaliya Ahmad, Prof Malik Zahra, Prof Syeda Afshana, Dr Afsana Rashid, Dr Rashid Maqbool, Dr Saba and Dr Irfan Hashim.
