As the 5th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil Elections are underway, Kargil district has witnessed an encouraging 40% voter turnout by 11 AM. Voters from across the district have flocked to polling stations to exercise their democratic rights and participate in the electoral process.
The elections, which began at 8 AM, and it will be concluded on 4 Pm have already seen a substantial number of voters queuing up to cast their votes. The smooth conduct of the electoral process and the enthusiasm of the electorate reflect the importance of these elections for the region.
The 5th LAHDC Kargil Elections are being closely watched as they hold significant implications for the development and representation of the district. The LAHDC plays a crucial role in local governance and decision-making, making these elections a pivotal moment for Kargil’s residents.
Authorities have implemented stringent security measures to ensure the safety of voters and the smooth functioning of the elections.
Sources said that Voters from across the district of Kargil, numbering 95,388 in total, including 46,762 women, eagerly exercised their democratic rights.The polling stations, numbering 278 and the voting process has been progressing peacefully since then. At many polling stations, lengthy queues of voters were observed, eager to participate in the electoral process and cast their ballots.
A notable 185 candidates are vying for positions in the 26 different race circles within the LAHDC Kargil district.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Kargil, ShriKant Bala Sahab Suse expressed confidence in the ongoing election proceedings, stating, “We have made thorough arrangements to ensure a peaceful and smooth election process. All necessary measures have been taken to guarantee a fair and transparent election.”
