Srinagar, Sept 10: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will inaugurate the three-day North Tech Symposium (NTS) 2023, which will commence at the scenic Jagti Campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu on Monday.
The event, organised in collaboration with senior Army officials, aims to foster synergy between the Indian Army, academia, and industry. This year’s NTS is expected to be a major attraction, drawing over 250 companies, including 50 start-ups. These companies will showcase military equipment specially designed for deployment in the challenging terrains of the Northern Command.
Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) Jammu, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal told Rising Kashmir that the North Tech Symposium will start from Monday with inauguration and exhibition by various vendors and tech symposium. The event will be attended by various dignitaries including LG of UT of J&K, LG of UT of Ladakh, Chief of Defence Staff, Vice- Chief of Army Staff.
Another officer said that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and Army Chief General Manoj Pande, along with other dignitaries, are scheduled to participate in the event on September 12. North Tech Symposium is an annual event conducted in Northern Command since its inception in 2005. It is expected to facilitate a structured approach to product evaluation, prioritization, and acquisition while providing valuable insights for procurement plans. This event holds the promise of strengthening India’s position in defence technology and enhancing its preparedness in challenging environments.
On September 6, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, Chief of Staff, Northern Command on Wednesday said the modernisation plan of the defence forces is focussed on capability development through ‘Self Reliant Defence Eco System’ following the Make-In-India pursuit.
“The Indian Army is a major participant in the ‘Make In India’ initiative to transform itself into a modern, Atmanirbhar and technology advanced force. Northern Command with its focus on Operation has itself remained at the forefront of this drive,” he said.
Lt Gen Sengupta said towards capability development of the Northern Command, a variety of weapon platforms and equipment are procured under the ambit of Army Commander’s Special Financial Powers (ACSFP) and Other Capital Procurement Procedure (OCPP). He said North Tech Symposium 2023 is Unique in the sense that major activities are being held at the IIT Jammu campus.
“Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), a nonprofit association, formed as the apex body of Indian Defence Industry under the umbrella of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), has done wonders in garnering the registration of nearly 200 industry partners and 50 Start-ups for the event,” the officer said. The theme of this year’s event “Synergy in Research, Development and Innovation for Modernisation of the Military” herein onwards we seek to address our “needs” through an inclusive approach, bringing the Indian Army, Defence Industry and Academia onto a collaborative platform.
The Symposium 2023 will be held over three days 11-13 Sep 2023 will exhibit the latest products by over 200 industry partners on various technologies with special encouragement to start ups.
