Srinagar, Mar 08: In a pioneering move towards environmental sustainability and economic prosperity, CEF Group, in collaboration with the JK Lake and Waterways Authority and NAFED, has unveiled a groundbreaking waste processing plant in Srinagar.
The inauguration ceremony, graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marked the commencement of a transformative project aimed at rejuvenating the world famous Dal Lake while addressing crucial waste management challenges.
Designed to tackle the persistent issue of lake pollution, particularly caused by weeds and lilies, the state-of-the-art facility will annually convert 70,000 tonnes of lake waste into 24,000 tonnes of organic manure and allied products. This monumental initiative not only signifies a significant stride towards environmental conservation but also underscores the potential for innovative solutions to complex ecological problems.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chairman of J&K Lake Conservation and Management Authority stated the multifaceted benefits of the project, ranging from sustainable waste management to job creation and the promotion of organic farming practices. The integration of local waste-derived organic manure into agricultural practices holds the promise of enhancing crop yields and reducing the financial burden on farmers, who currently rely on costly imports from distant states.
Maninder Singh, the Founder and CEO of CEF Group, highlighted the holistic vision behind the Dal Lake Waste Processing Plant, stressing its role in transforming landscapes, fostering biodiversity, and enhancing the natural beauty of Jammu and Kashmir’s cherished lakes. The project represents a paradigm shift towards greener, more sustainable practices, aligning with global efforts towards combating climate change and preserving ecological balance.
Managing Director of NAFED, Ritesh Chauhan, echoed this sentiment, affirming the organization’s commitment to sustainable development through impactful initiatives like the waste processing plant. By leveraging advanced technologies and eco-friendly methods, the project not only minimizes environmental impact but also paves the way for a greener, healthier future for generations to come.
