District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kishtwar, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Family Welfare today organised a comprehensive awareness program in the District Hospital to mark observance of World HIV AIDS Day. The initiative aimed to educate, inform, and engage participants in understanding the implications of HIV AIDS  in the society.

Advocate Pooja Shan and Advocate Iram Sabha led the program as resource persons. Dr. Mohd. Yaqoob Mir (CMO) and Dr. Yudhveer Singh Kotwal (Medical Superintendent) provided essential insights into the prevention of spread of AIDS, emphasizing measures pivotal to its control and eradication from the country.

The event witnessed valuable contribution from the students of the nursing college, further highlighting the importance of collective efforts towards combating this global health concern.

The theme for this year’s World AIDS Day, “LET COMMUNITIES LEAD,” underscores the significant role communities play in shaping the HIV response and global health at large. This day serves as a crucial platform to assess achieved progress, raise awareness about persisting challenges, and mobilize all stakeholders to redouble their efforts, ensuring the success of the HIV response.

Moreover, the program stressed the critical need to eradicate AIDS from the country without discrimination. Upholding the principles of equality and maintaining confidentiality, all infected individuals are to be treated as equal citizens, availing themselves of the government’s schemes and free treatment facilities.

The event witnessed a robust participation of 125 attendees, including doctors, para-medical staff, visiting patients, and nursing college students. Additionally, Para Legal Volunteers of DLSA Kishtwar organized five awareness programs across various locations in the District Kishtwar, amplifying the reach and impact of this vital initiative.
