Srinagar, Aug 14: On the directions of Commissioner SMC, a meeting on the Poultry Dressing Units and Waste Management SOPs was Thursday held under the chairpersonship of Joint Commissioner (Adm) Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Nuzhat Qureshi.As per a statement issued here, meeting discussed threadbare supply of clean, hygienic and wholesome poultry meat in Srinagar. Adherence to Solid Waste Management SoPs also came under discussion on the occasion. Joint Commissioner (Adm) instructed for strict Implementation of uniform hygiene, sanitation, and biosecurity protocols across all poultry dressing units, with clear inspection checklists and standard operating procedures. “Waste-management practices must be strengthened, including segregation at source, proper disposal, and regular monitoring,” she added. During the meeting, Joint commissioner said that a coordinated framework will be established for timely information sharing, grievance redressal, and rapid response to non-compliance. She said public awareness campaigns will be launched on safe handling, storage, and cooking of poultry products to protect consumer health. In order to ensure proper hygiene and waste management, Qureshi assured scheduling regular training sessions for workers and farmers on hygiene, safety, and waste-management best practices. Attendees agreed on strengthened waste-management compliance, enhanced coordination among traders, farmers, and authorities, and public awareness initiatives to safeguard public health and the integrity of Srinagar’s poultry supply chain. Municipal Veterinary Officer and senior officers of SMC, besides representatives of the Poultry Retail Dealers Association and the Urban Poultry Farmers Association, among other stakeholders attended the meeting.
