Srinagar, July 29: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) NalinPrabhat on Tuesday reaffirmed the police force’s unwavering commitment to justice, guided by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s mantra: “Do not touch the innocent and do not spare the guilty.”

Speaking at a public function in Jammu, DGP Prabhat emphasised that the Jammu and Kashmir Police are steadfast in their mission and are working within the framework of new victim-centric laws gradually being implemented across the Union Territory.

“The Lieutenant Governor has given us a guiding principle, not to touch the innocent and not to spare the guilty. This encapsulates the ethos of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. It is not just a slogan; it defines our approach,” he said.

The DGP highlighted the force’s role beyond law enforcement, describing police personnel as agents of social support and justice.

“We do our utmost to reach out to the oppressed, distressed, and those in pain. Wherever possible, we offer help to those with no one to turn to,” he said.

Urging his officers to aim high, DGP Prabhat said,“I tell my officers: aspire as if you’re competing for a Nobel Prize in Physics or a gold medal in Mathematics. We must be capable of playing every role and becoming catalysts for real change.”

He also noted that no societal issue is beyond the scope of police responsibility.“It has always been our mission to ensure justice. Just as we address the grievances of distressed individuals, society must also support the police in these efforts,” he added.

Addressing the issue of rising financial frauds, the DGP cited a recent case involving job scams, where fraudsters duped people by promising employment in exchange for money.

“This was a clear-cut case of cheating. Why do we keep slipping on the same banana peel? Why don’t we open our eyes before damage is done?” he said.

He acknowledged that crime can never be completely eradicated but stressed the importance of public awareness.“The first line of defence against crime is society itself. Citizens must stay alert and act responsibly,” he said.

Reaffirming the police’s resolve, DGP Prabhat said, “We stand by the people and will continue to do so whether the fight is against drugs, gangsters, crime, or terrorism. Every day is a test for the police, and every day we must deliver results worthy of the highest recognition.”

He also lauded recent legal reforms initiated by the government, calling them progressive and timely.

“These new laws are being implemented gradually and are focused on delivering justice to victims. The objective is to ensure swift action against offenders, including seizure of their properties, and to deliver justice without delay,” he said.
