Jammu, Mar 11: The University of Jammu, in collaboration with the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, is set to host a landmark three-day workshop titled “Capacity Building in Leadership Development of Academic Administrators and Principals for NEP-2020 Implementation.”
This significant initiative represents a crucial step towards reshaping India’s educational landscape in alignment with global standards, particularly emphasizing the internationalization of higher education, the university said in a statement issued here.
Designated as the nodal university for the familiarization, sensitization, and capacity building of academicians, administrators, and stakeholders for the effective implementation of NEP 2020, the University of Jammu underscores its commitment to advancing educational excellence.
During a curtain-raiser press conference, Prof Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairperson of the Higher Education Council, Government of JK UT, and Chancellor of Kumara Mangalam University, emphasized the transformative potential of NEP in fostering a Knowledge Economy essential for sustained economic growth. He underscored the importance of engaging students with NEP principles to empower them with newfound academic freedoms.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Prof Umesh Rai, highlighted the paramount importance of curriculum revision in light of NEP-2020. He proudly acknowledged the university’s leadership role in NEP-2020 implementation, positioning Jammu and Kashmir as a pioneer in delivering quality education. The workshop will delve into policy execution, particularly focusing on universities experiencing a surge in youth enrollment.
Prof Rai said there is a transition towards maximizing online course offerings, providing students with flexibility in selecting subjects beyond their colleges’ offerings.
Dean Academic Affairs and Convener of the workshop, Prof Anju Bhasin, provided a comprehensive overview of the event, revealing that 250 participants have registered, with 35 speakers scheduled across ten sessions over three days.
With India boasting the world’s second-largest education system and witnessing a remarkable 27 percent increase in higher education participation, the focus has shifted towards holistic reform, the university said, adding that the objective is not merely reform but a complete overhaul to offer top-tier curricula and institutions capable of global competition. NEP-2020 serves as the guiding framework in this transformative journey, it added.
Themed “Internationalization of Higher Education,” the workshop convenes key stakeholders – university leaders, administrators, and academics – to deliberate on aligning university systems with NEP-2020’s vision.
The workshop features presentations, discussions, group work, and case study overviews, providing ample opportunities for communication and knowledge sharing.
