Jammu, Jun 17: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh on Tuesday accused the Congress party of deliberately misleading the nation on the issue of caste-based census while maintaining a long legacy of betrayal against OBCs and marginalised communities.
Reacting to the Karnataka Congress government’s backtracking on its own Rs 165-crore caste survey report, Chugh in a statement issued here said, “Congress has no intention of doing justice to the OBC community. The entire survey was just a political gimmick, and their retreat now exposes their hypocrisy.”
He said, “For Congress, social justice has never been a commitment — only a slogan. Be it Pandit Nehru rejecting the Kaka Kalelkar report, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi opposing the Mandal Commission, Rajiv Gandhi speaking against reservations in Parliament, or Rahul Gandhi speaking against reservation on foreign land. Every generation of the Congress leadership has stood against the rights of the deprived.”
The BJP leader slammed Congress for falsely accusing the Modi government of shelving the caste census, saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains fully committed to implementing it in the upcoming national exercise. “Congress is not serious about representation or justice. Their politics is guided by appeasement and deceit. Will the benefits of reservation be decided on data or on the whims of the Gandhi family?” he asked.
He said the BJP not only implemented the Mandal Commission but also gave constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes, showing its real commitment to uplifting the backward sections of society. “For the BJP, caste census and OBC empowerment are issues of policy and principle, not propaganda. For Congress, they are tools of opportunism. The people of India will no longer be fooled,” Chugh said.
