Jammu, Dec 17: The transport scenario of Jammu and Srinagar cities of the Union Territory is all set to be revolutionised and will be people-friendly as the government has finalised the intra-city routes for the 75 high-tech e-buses to cover the municipal limits of both cities.
“The routes for the e-buses in both Jammu and Srinagar cities have been finalised and selected in such a way to ensure that almost entire cities are connected with the high-tech public transport system,” General Manager, Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), Ashish Anand informed Rising Kashmir.
He said the government has planned the movement of e-buses in these cities in such a way that all the unconnected areas with the public transport system get this facility at the cheapest rates as have already been finalised.
The 9-metre-long e-buses, supplied by Tata Motors, will be plying within the municipal limits of both the cities.
These high-tech e-buses have heating facilities in winter and cooling facilities in summer. The fare charges are almost the same as the matadors and other SRTC buses.
The passengers will have to pay Rs 10 for travelling a distance of 03 -10 km in e-buses. The fare, otherwise, for travelling in SRTC buses and the matadors as fixed by the government was Rs 8.47 for 3 km. The hike in fare charges is due to the AC and heating system, which is mandatory as per the laid down guidelines.
