Ganderbal, May 25: In a heartfelt gesture, villagers from Batwina in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have announced Rs one lakh reward for anyone who helps in locating the body of a missing forest guard who drowned in the Sindh River.
The forest guard, Shameem Ahmad Mir (45), a resident of Batwina, reportedly slipped and fell into the river on Friday while on duty at Compartment No. 01, Paribal. Despite extensive search operations, there has been no trace of him so far.
Multiple agencies including the Marine Commandos (MARCOS), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), J&K Police, the Forest Department, and local rescue volunteers have joined forces in the ongoing rescue operation along the treacherous river stretch.
Moved by the prolonged search efforts and the anguish of the missing guard’s family, the villagers have collectively offered a cash reward of ₹1 lakh in hopes of expediting the recovery and bringing closure to the grieving family.
Meanwhile, the rescue operation continued for the third consecutive day.
