Srinagar, May 22: Amid the ongoing heatwave, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) on Thursday ordered new school timings for all government and recognised private schools across the Kashmir Division, effective from May 26, 2025.
As per the order issued by the Director of School Education Kashmir, schools falling within the Srinagar municipal limits will operate from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Schools located outside the municipal limits of Srinagar district and in other areas of the Kashmir Division will follow the timing of 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The order further states that these instructions must be strictly followed by all concerned educational institutions and that any deviation will be viewed seriously.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Sakina ltoo, told the reporters that we have received numerous requests from parents for a change in school hours. Therefore, we have decided to implement an earlier schedule beginning Monday,” she said.
The minister also supported the suggestion that morning assemblies should be held in shaded areas or large indoor halls, wherever available.
Over the past few weeks, day temperatures have increased, and according to the weather department, heatwave conditions are likely to persist.
