Srinagar, May 21: In a commendable initiative aimed at promoting inclusivity and empowering persons with disabilities, the Department of Youth Services and Sports Ganderbal, in collaboration with She Hope Disability Centre, today organized a vibrant Para Sports Mela at the scenic campus of Government College of Physical Education Gadoora, Ganderbal.The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 120 para-athletes, including men, women, and children from across District Ganderbal.The sporting extravaganza featured a wide array of events tailored to suit diverse abilities Wheelchair Run, Tennisball Cricket,Tug of War, Carrom, and Chess offering participants a platform to showcase their skills and determination. The Chief Guest on the occasion, Chief Education Officer Ganderbal, Oneel Kumar, lauded the initiative and encouraged participants to continue striving for excellence. He was joined by esteemed dignitaries including Dr. Showkat Hussain and Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Azad and Reshi Kumar Assistant Professors at Physical College who all emphasized the importance of such inclusive events in boosting confidence and social engagement among specially-abled individuals.
DYSSO Ganderbal, Sheikh Shafqat Iqbal, formally inaugurated the Mela and highlighted the department’s commitment to creating an inclusive sports culture in the district. The event culminated in a prize distribution ceremony, where all dignitaries jointly felicitated the winners, runner-ups, and participants with medals, trophies, and words of encouragement. The vibrant atmosphere, sportsmanship, and collective spirit of the event truly exemplified the theme of resilience, empowerment, and inclusion.
