Jammu, April 18: The Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Jammu and Kashmir, Friday commemorated World Heritage Day 2025 at the Dogra Art Museum, Mubarak Mandi. Recognised globally since 1983 by UNESCO, World Heritage Day aims to celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of humanity and promote efforts to preserve both tangible and intangible heritage. This year’s theme, “Heritage under Threat from Disasters and Conflicts,” focused on the vulnerabilities faced by cultural treasures.
The museum hosted a special exhibition of Jammu School Miniature Paintings, which was the main attraction of the event. A detailed PowerPoint presentation showcasing various monuments from the Jammu division was also displayed to the visitors and students, providing a deeper insight into the region’s rich heritage. The event began with the lighting of the traditional lamp by Yudhveer Sethi, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Jammu East, and Mukul Magotra, Curator of the Dogra Art Museum. MLA Sethi praised the Department for their efforts and acknowledged the work of Kuldeep Krishan Sidha, Director of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, and his team in making the event a success.

In addition to the museum event, the Department organised activities at other historical sites, including Samba Fort, Hari Parbat Fort, and the S.P.S. Museum in Srinagar. Schools and colleges from Jammu were invited to the museum for an educational experience, where they showed keen interest in the craft, objects, and artefacts on display. The students were given guided tours of the museum’s galleries, where trained guides educated them about the history and significance of the various art pieces. The event was curated by Mukul Magotra, with oversight from Director K.K. Sidha.
