Awantipora, Mar 28: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), successfully concluded the two-day National Seminar on ‘Role of the Indian Knowledge System in Promoting Digital Learning and Education’ on Thursday.

Sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), the seminar explored the integration of India’s intellectual heritage with modern digital education practices.

The second day of the seminar commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Rabia Noor, Head, DJMC, who introduced the keynote speaker, Prof. Govind Singh, former Dean Academic Affairs, Indian Institute of Communication, New Delhi.

In his address, Prof. Singh underscored the need to create space for Indian philosophies in an academic landscape often dominated by western ideologies. “We tend to prioritize western perspectives, but our ability to function as a sovereign nation proves the strength of our own intellectual traditions,” he stated.

Elaborating on the Indian way of thinking, he emphasized the significant contributions of the literature from Kashmir to the broader Indian knowledge system.

Meanwhile, two technical sessions were held that were chaired by Dr. Syed Jaleel Hussain, Head, Centre for International Relations, IUST, and Dr. Showkat Hussain, Head, Department of Islamic Studies, IUST, respectively. The sessions were moderated by Dr. Arif Hussain, Assistant Professor, DJMC. Other faculty members who were present on the occasion included Dr. Ruheela Hassan, Dean Outreach IUST, Dr. Mujeeb Liyakat, Assistant Professor, DJMC and Dr. Sayar Ahamd Mir, Assistant Professor, DJMC besides others.

The seminar concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Rabia Noor, marking the successful culmination of discussions.
