Srinagar, Mar 12: An Indian Army soldier was injured in a cross-border firing incident in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district on Wednesday. He was immediately airlifted to the Command Hospital in Udhampur for advanced medical treatment, officials said.
According to official sources, the soldier sustained injuries in a suspected sniper attack from across the border. The injured soldier has been identified as Man Kumar Bega. We have beefed up the security along the LoC, he said.
Meanwhile this incident comes just two weeks after suspected terrorists opened fire on an Army vehicle in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri, near LoC. The attack occurred when the Army convoy was passing through Phal village, though no casualties were reported.
Notably, the Indian Army last month dismissed reports of instability along the India-Pakistan border, emphasizing that the ceasefire remains intact as per the mutual understanding between both armies.
“The ceasefire on the LoC is intact and continues to be observed as per the understanding between both the armies (of India and Pakistan). Tension due to some stray incidents of cross-LoC firing and a suspected IED blast on one of our patrols is being dealt with through the established mechanism. No exchange of fire involving heavy-calibre weapons has taken place,” it said.
