Dr Darakhshan chairs Santoor recital session by ICCR

‘Opportune time for women to break stereotypes, prove their capabilities’

Jammu, March 10: Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board, Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, Monday chaired a special Santoor recital session at Government Women’s PG College, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in collaboration with Aarohi Sangeet Vidyalaya as part of International Women’s Week celebrations.
The event was attended by Neha Jalali, Director of Press Information Bureau; Arvind Karwani, Commissioner for Relief and Rehabilitation, Vikram Randhawa, MLA for Bahu Constituency, Rajesh Kumar, Director of ICCR J&K Chapter, S.S. Parihar, Principal of Women’s College Gandhi Nagar, Rekha Mahajan, Secretary of BJP J&K, and R.K. Tikku, programme organiser. The session featured performances by renowned and emerging artists, paying tribute to women’s strength and achievements. In her presidential address, Dr Andrabi described the present era as a golden period for Indian women, highlighting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives, such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, have significantly advanced women’s empowerment in India.
“This is the most opportune time for Indian women to break stereotypes and prove their capabilities in all fields. Women are now at the forefront of India’s progress, excelling in diverse and unconventional sectors,” said Dr Andrabi. She emphasised the impact of government welfare schemes designed to uplift women, stressing that their success is steering India towards a new golden age. Dr Andrabi expressed gratitude to the college and partnering organisations for celebrating women’s empowerment through classical music, recognising it as a symbol of cultural and social progress.
