Sonamarg gets fire station as MLA Kangan meets Dir F&E

Srinagar, Feb 14: In a significant development for the tourist destination of Sonamarg, a Fire and Emergency Services station has been sanctioned for the area. The move comes after MLA Kangan, Mian Mehar Ali, met with Director of Fire and Emergency Services J&K, Alok Kumar, and expressed his gratitude for approving the much-needed facility.
The government has already identified one kanal of land in Sonamarg for the construction of the fire station. MLA Mian Mehar Ali has recommended the release of funds from his share of the UT Capex for the construction of a dedicated building and garage to accommodate fire tenders and manpower.
Until the main building is completed, the fire tender and personnel will be stationed at Gagangeer in the APCO camp, as the matter has already been taken up with the authorities. This interim arrangement will ensure that fire safety measures are in place for the region, which sees a high influx of tourists and is prone to fire-related emergencies.
In a social media post, MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali wrote, “met Director Fire and emergency services J&K Shri Alok Kumar -IPS and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for sanctioning of Fire and emergency station at Sonamarg. This is important to mention here that the Government has already identified 01 kanal of Land at Sonamarg for which Hon’ble MLA has recommended the release of funds from his share of UT capex for the Construction of building and Garage for manpower and fire tender on the said land at Sonamarg . This is pertinent to mention here that Fire Tender and manpower will station at Gagingeer in APCO camp as matter has been already taken up with them till the completion of main building at Sonamarg.”
The establishment of a fire station in Sonamarg has been a long-pending demand, considering the area’s strategic importance and vulnerability to fire hazards. With this development, locals and visitors can expect better emergency response services in the region.
