Jammu, Feb 11: In a major push towards sustainable agriculture and water conservation, Director Agriculture Jammu, S. Arvinder Singh Reen, conducted an extensive field visit to Marh Sub-Division Tuesday.
The visit focused on evaluating the impact of technological interventions and advancing farmer-centric initiatives under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP). During his tour, Director Reen inspected vegetable cultivation under the Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) initiative at the fields of Vikrant Kaiser in Marh Bagh village. He stressed the importance of micro-irrigation systems, such as drip and sprinkler irrigation, to maximize water-use efficiency and boost crop productivity. Calling for responsible water management, he urged farmers to utilize perennial irrigation sources and adopt climate-resilient crop varieties to tackle environmental challenges.
A key highlight of the visit was the inspection of the newly established Kisan Khidmat Ghar (KKG) at Marh. The centre, set up under HADP, serves as a one-stop solution for farmers, offering expert guidance, quality inputs, and government scheme information. Director Reen underscored the role of KKGs in streamlining agricultural activities and enhancing productivity at the grassroots level.
In Gurha Singhu village, the Director also reviewed a Mushroom Controlled Cropping Unit set up under HADP by Bal Krishan. Applauding the initiative, he highlighted the entrepreneurial potential of mushroom farming, especially under controlled conditions, which can generate employment and boost local economies.
Addressing agriculture extension officers, he emphasised the need for commitment and innovation in improving farmers’ livelihoods. He urged them to promote modern farming techniques, including advanced machinery and high-quality inputs, ensuring sustainable and profitable agriculture in J&K. The visit reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering farmers with technology, knowledge, and resources to make agriculture more resilient and productive in the face of changing climatic and economic conditions.
