Pulwama, Feb 03: The family of a female patient from Arihal village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, who allegedly died due to medical negligence at a private hospital in September 2024, staged a protest on Monday outside Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s residence in Srinagar.
Demanding justice, the victim’s family told the media that Saboora Arshid, daughter of Arshid Hussain Bhat, a resident of Arihal village of Pulwama, was admitted to Mohammadia Nursing Home, a private hospital at Gangoo, on September 14, 2024.
According to the family, she was taken to the operation theatre around 2:50 PM for nose surgery.
“We were told that this was a minor procedure that would take only a few minutes. However, we were left uninformed about her condition for more than two and a half hours,” the protesting family members said. They added that around 5:50 PM, the doctor concerned shifted her to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar.
The family further alleged that the doctor transported the patient in an ambulance without any family member accompanying her.
They accused the doctor at the private hospital of administering an overdose of anaesthesia, leading to her death.
“We were informed by patients at SMHS Hospital Srinagar that she was brought dead at ward number 17,” they said.
Following the allegations, authorities in Pulwama had sealed the nursing home temporarily and had announced an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The family said that the autopsy report of the deceased has been prepared and now they are demanding justice from the elected government of Jammu and Kashmir.
