Ganderbal, Feb 26: Ganderbal district inaugurated a One-Stop Centre (OSC) on January 01, 2021, to provide comprehensive assistance to survivors of gender-based violence. Spearheading this initiative, Advocate Malik Shagufta, the Centre Administrator, said the OSC plays a pivotal role in offering a wide range of services, from crisis intervention to legal aid and medical support.
Since its inception, the OSC has handled over 300 cases, resolving approximately 135 of them and addressing issues like human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual harassment, cybercrime, and more, Shagufta said, adding that the centre ensures privacy and confidentiality and offers temporary housing, counselling, medical attention, rescue services, and legal assistance.
Taking a proactive stance, the district administration has initiated measures to combat harassment in public transportation, including the placement of labels with contact details for the women’s cell, the one-stop centre, and district administration on all public transport vehicles.
Advocate Shagufta emphasized the centre’s commitment to providing around-the-clock support, encouraging individuals experiencing harassment to reach out for assistance. “The OSC stands as a beacon of hope, fostering a safe and supportive environment for survivors to reclaim their dignity and rebuild their lives,” she said.
