Srinagar, Jan 01: In a move towards urban development, the Amirakadal Footbridge project in Srinagar is making remarkable progress, aiming to seamlessly integrate Lal Chowk & Residency Road with Gonikhan, Hari Singh High Street. The ongoing initiative, part of the smart city projects, is set to enhance connectivity and accessibility in the city.
According to Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Athar Amir Khan, the transformative impact of the footbridge, envisioning a unified urban landscape. The commissioner highlighted the project’s role in linking key areas and fostering a more interconnected city. This infrastructural undertaking is proof of Srinagar’s assurance of smart city initiatives.
Furthermore, the commissioner shed light on various concurrent projects across the city. Notably, the Restoration and Heritage conservation in the downtown area stands out as a comprehensive effort. The old city area of Srinagar is witnessing simultaneous progress in drainage, sewerage, underground electrification, and streetscape works. This multi-faceted approach reflects a holistic commitment to urban renewal and heritage conservation.
The commissioner expressed pride in the collaborative efforts of artisans, craftsmen, and the entire Srinagar Smart City team. Their dedication has enabled the successful execution of this ambitious project, marking a significant milestone in Srinagar’s urban transformation journey.
As the city undergoes this extensive urban renewal, the integrated development approach underscores the commitment to preserving heritage while embracing modern infrastructure. The Amirakadal Footbridge and associated projects are poised to redefine Srinagar’s urban landscape, creating a more vibrant and accessible city for residents and visitors alike.
Srinagar city will become a smart city by June 2024. A total of 125 projects worth Rs 930 crore have been sanctioned under the Smart City Mission under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. For this project so far, many vital works have been completed, which include the redevelopment of Lal Chowk Square, the riverfront and several other projects.
