Srinagar, Jan 06: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that he is closely monitoring the restoration of essential services following the heavy snowfall across the Kashmir Valley. The Chief Minister highlighted that the electricity load in the valley stands at 1200MW during the day and is expected to rise, emphasizing that restoration efforts are being prioritized to minimize disruption.
Managing Director of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Mehmood Ahmad Shah, said that around 150 feeders were down in the morning due to the snowfall. However, he confirmed that the department had been alerted in advance, and all feeders were restored by the evening.
To assess the ground situation, the Chief Minister has deployed two ministers, Sakina Itoo and Javaid Dar, along with advisor Nasir Sogami, to visit various districts in the valley. Their mission is to evaluate the impact of the snowfall and oversee ongoing restoration efforts.
Taking to microblogging site X, Omar Abdullah said, “Following the snowfall in J&K yesterday, particularly in the valley, restoration work is in full swing and being closely monitored. The current electricity load being drawn in the valley is 1200MW and will rise as the day progresses. Snow clearance work is proceeding with priority roads receiving immediate attention.”
Earlier, the Meteorological Department had issued a warning of heavy snowfall in the valley, which caused disruptions in power supply and road connectivity. Authorities quickly mobilized efforts to clear snow from roads to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
