Admin keeps men, machinery on toes amid fresh snowfall in Gbl

JCBs, snow clearance machines kept on standby mode, BRO deploys its men at Gagangeer

Ganderbal, Jan 05: As predicted by the Meteorological Department, fresh snowfall across the Kashmir has prompted the district administration in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir to mobilise all departments.

To address challenges arising from the snowfall, the Ganderbal administration has mobilized all departments. The Roads and Buildings (R&B) department has deployed men and machinery in Ganderbal, Kangan and Gund divisions.

Officials said that the R&B Division Gund has pressed six JCBs into service for snow clearance already, while Kangan and Ganderbal divisions have also activated their teams.

The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has positioned its personnel and machinery in the Gagangeer area to ensure uninterrupted snow clearance operations. Meanwhile, the District Administration of Ganderbal has directed all departments to remain prepared for contingencies.

The district administration has issued an advisory for the general public in view of avalanche warning with Low Danger Level above 2700 meters over Ganderbal from January 3 to January 5.

As per the advisory, general public of district Ganderbal is advised to take precautions, remain cautious and avoid venturing out in slopes, hilly areas or avalanche prone areas and evacuate from unprotected settlements near the avalanche path till further instructions. “For any assistance, contact our 24×7 District Control Room/EOC Ganderbal. 0194-2416260, 0194-2416261, 8493868773,” the advisory reads.
