Ganderbal, Jan 01: Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district ushered in the New Year with an unprecedented two-day festival that captivated both locals and tourists.
The historic event marked Sonamarg’s debut as a host for a New Year festival, showcasing the region’s commitment to celebrating joy and fostering tourism. Deputy Commissioner Shyambir and ADDC, CEO Dr Alyas Hussain and officials from District Administration Ganderbal, Police, Tourism Department and other stakeholders participated to make the festival a grand success.
Administration ensured seamless arrangements for visitors, providing essential services such as water, electricity, and central heating systems in hotels. The festival featured a vibrant music event, where skilled singers delivered a delightful mix of folk and Bollywood melodies, creating a lively atmosphere for attendees.
The Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) introduced the destination’s first-ever ice-skating event, elevating the spirit of adventure and promoting winter sports. Additionally, snowshoe racing, a thrilling winter sport, made its debut in Sonamarg, organised by the Development Authority to diversify adventure tourism.
As night fell, Sonamarg transformed into a mesmerising spectacle with captivating decorations adorning hotels and roads, providing a breathtaking backdrop for the New Year celebration.
