Shopian, Dec 12: The Department of Social Welfare, Shopian and NRLM Shopian today dedicated the Computer Lab at NRLM Office Batapora Shopian to the Self Help Groups (SHGs) and other girl students of the district under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar inaugurated the Lab, and also graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The Lab has been set up at the NRLM office for the local entrepreneurs of the district who are associated with Self Help Groups of Rural Livelihood Mission, and is a significant milestone for upskilling and equipping them for better outputs in their enterprises and businesses.
On the occasion, DC appreciated the efforts by coordinating departments to empower the womenfolk and expressed hope that the usage of the now dedicated Computer Lab shall accelerate the economic vibrancy of the businesses.
This initiative, DC said, is in line with the goal of the administration to promote economic upliftment through the empowerment of women self-help groups.
The lab will provide training in computer skills, enabling SHG members and students to improve their livelihoods and entrepreneurial ventures. By acquiring these skills, they can better manage their businesses, access online markets, and explore new opportunities.
DSWO Shopian, DPM RLM and other concerned officials were present at the ceremony along with scores of SHGs.
CCF Kashmir inaugurates Forest Library at Forest HQ, Srinagar
Srinagar, Dec 12: In a significant move aimed at bridging the gap between nature and knowledge, the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Kashmir, Irfan Rasool Wani Thursday inaugurated the pioneering Forest Library at the Forest Headquarters in Srinagar.
A statement issued here said that the innovative initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of our natural world among the community, particularly the youth.
The Forest Library, nestled within the serene premises of the Forest Complex, Sheikhbagh, Srinagar, is a treasure trove of resources on forestry, wildlife, environmental conservation and much more. It stands as a testament to the region’s commitment to promoting environmental education and sustainable living practices.
Speaking at the inauguration, the CCF Kashmir remarked that today marks a monumental day not just for us in the Forest Department but for every nature lover and learner out there. “The Forest Library is more than just a repository of books, it is a sanctuary where knowledge meets nature. Our aim is to inspire and educate our community about the importance of conserving our precious environment,” he said.
The library boasts an extensive collection of books, journals, and digital resources covering a wide array of subjects related to the natural world. It also features interactive learning spaces designed to engage visitors of all ages in environmental education activities.
In addition to serving as an educational hub, the Forest Library is envisioned to be a space for dialogue and collaboration among environmentalists, researchers, students, and the general public. It aims to host regular workshops, seminars, and exhibitions on various environmental themes to raise awareness and foster community engagement in conservation efforts.
“Through the Forest Library, we hope to ignite a passion for nature in the hearts of our visitors. We invite everyone to explore, learn, and join us in our mission to protect and preserve our environment for future generations,” said the CCF Kashmir. Among others the function was attended by Tawheed Ahmad Deva, CF Srinagar; Arashdeep Singh, CF South; DFO Urban Forestry, IPO, and HQ Range Officers.
