Srinagar, Dec 10: Division of Host Plant Production, College of Temperate Sericulture (CoTS), SKUAST-Kashmir, inaugurated one-week training program, sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) in collaboration with Government Degree College (GDC) Tangmarg
A statement issued here said that the training program aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in sericulture and allied sectors, thereby fostering economic self-reliance and contributing to the agrarian economy.
In her inaugural address, Prof. Irfana Majeed, Principal of GDC Tangmarg, emphasized the significance of entrepreneurship in achieving financial independence.
She highlighted the pivotal role sericulture plays in uplifting rural and agrarian livelihoods, urging participants to leverage this opportunity for personal and community development. Prof. M.F. Baqual, the Coordinator of the program, provided an overview of the initiative and underscored the importance of engaging more beneficiaries in such capacity-building programs to empower them with employment opportunities and entrepreneurial skills.
Dr. Shabana Anjum, Associate Professor from GDC Bemina, delivered a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation on aquaculture, showcasing its potential as an alternative livelihood. This was followed by a presentation by Prof. Baqual, further emphasizing the interrelation of allied sectors with sericulture. The program was moderated by Dr. Saima Shafi of GDC Tangmarg, while Dr. Sabiha Ashraf of CoTS proposed a vote of thanks.
