Ganderbal, Dec 04: To ensure compliance with food safety and consumer protection laws, authorities have intensified market inspections in Kangan for the second consecutive day, targeting hotels, vegetable vendors, fruit sellers, and other traders.
A joint team comprising officials from the Food Safety Department, Legal Metrology Department, Police, and Drug Control Department conducted extensive checks under the supervision of Naib Tehsildar Kangan and Plang. The inspection covered the main market in Kangan and the Wussan area, focusing on adherence to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Essential Commodities Act.
During the inspection, violations were identified, leading to the collection of ₹4,400 in fines from traders found breaching regulations. Authorities emphasized that such inspections aim to protect consumers from substandard goods and ensure fair trade practices.
The officials warned traders to adhere strictly to legal standards, particularly in the handling and pricing of food and essential commodities. The ongoing inspection drive is expected to continue in the coming days to ensure discipline and safeguard public health.
Local residents have welcomed the move, expressing hope that such measures will ensure the availability of quality products and fair pricing in the market.
