SKUAST-K, KVK Ganderbal organizes EAP on Weather Forecasting & Decision Support System

Ganderbal, Dec 03: KVK Ganderbal organized a one-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme on ‘Weather Forecasting & Decision Support System in Agriculture’ on Tuesday at Shuhama campus of KVK.
The aim of this EAP was to increase awareness regarding weather forecasting & use of crop models like DSSAT in Agriculture & allied sectors for better production of crops. The training was  being sponsored by Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India
The programme started with welcome address by Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist KVK Ganderbal who also gave an outline regarding Weather Forecasting.  Prof. Ishfaq Abidi, Chief Scientist & Head gave a comprehensive presentation regarding various crop models with special emphasis on components, working & capabilities of DSSAT in Agriculture. He appraised the gathering about the benefits of such models in fertilizer & irrigation management, spatial analysis of soil conditions and evaluation of bio-physical responses of crops. The trainees were appraised about various types of DSS in Agriculture & their impact on future farming in Kashmir conditions. Dr. Abidi informed the participants about use of Integrated Techniques, IT Technology & forecasting models, Precision Agriculture Systems for year-round cultivation of diverse crops to improve farming landscape of Kashmir. On the occasion, Dr. S.N. Qureshi, Scientist KVK Ganderbal informed the trainees about improving farming efficiency in Horticulture.  Further, the participants were taken for an exhaustive field visit to IFS Model & Weather Station at KVK Ganderbal.
The programme was attended by Scientists & Supporting Staff of KVK, students, farmers, farmwomen entrepreneurs & local youth, who appreciated the role of KVK in knowledge dissemination & use of modern tools & techniques for farming systems.
