• 3 lakh people join in one day after PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’
• Party aims for additional 14 lakh members by December 30
Jammu, Nov 26: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a historic milestone, with over 20 lakh people now registered as active members in Jammu and Kashmir, making it the party with the highest number of active members in the region’s political history.
Prior to the ongoing membership drive, the BJP had approximately 16 lakh active members following its 2018 membership campaign, sources said. However, the current membership drive has seen an addition of over 4 lakh new active members, bringing the total to a little over 20 lakh, with numbers expected to rise further.
Aseem Gupta, Incharge of the BJP’s membership drive, said: “The BJP now has more than 20 lakh active members in J&K, and this number will continue to grow as we are receiving an overwhelming response from all sections of society.”
The BJP’s ongoing membership drive focuses on key demographics, including youth, women, marginalised groups, Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and first-time voters, a party leader said.
In a significant boost to the drive, more than 3 lakh people joined the party in a single day following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address on Sunday, according to the leader. The membership drive, which has been conducted through both online and offline channels at polling booths across J&K, is set to conclude on December 30.
Gupta added, “We have set a target of enrolling 14 lakh new members by the end of this drive.”
Once the membership drive concludes, BJP leaders, including Party President Sat Sharma, General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul and Aseem Gupta, will travel to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Modi, BJP National President JP Nadda, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to submit a detailed report on the membership campaign in J&K.
BJP leaders discuss ways to increase party’s membership across J&K
Arif Raja, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Membership Incharge for Kashmir, chaired a crucial review meeting on Tuesday to assess the progress of the ongoing membership drive in the region. The meeting was attended by BJP’s 2024 Assembly candidates and senior district leaders from across Kashmir.

The session focused on evaluating the progress of the membership drive, strategising organisational efforts and enhancing outreach to the people of Kashmir, the statement said, adding that the leaders discussed ways to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence and increase membership engagement across the region.
Arif Raja called for expanding BJP’s influence in every district and ensuring that the party’s vision for a prosperous Kashmir reaches more people. “It is important to create awareness about the party’s goals and values to foster greater support,” he said.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to mobilise party workers and build a vibrant membership base, the statement said.
