Cold breeze hits Valley following dip in temperatures
Srinagar, Nov 15: Following dip in temperatures, the higher reaches in Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall, while light lashed plains on Friday. The local meteorological department has forecasted improvement in prevailing weather conditions from Sunday forenoon, officials said.
Director MeT Srinagar, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that under the influence of fresh Western disturbance, fresh light snow spell was experienced over isolated higher reaches of north and north eastern parts.
“We are expecting generally cloudy with light rain, light snow (higher reaches) at many places of Kashmir & few places of Jammu division and improvement from late evening,” he said.
Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said from 17-23rd November, weather will remain generally dry weather. From 24th Nov, there is generally cloudy with light rain, light snow (higher reaches) at isolated places.
“There is temporary disruption of surface transportation due to light snowfall over Zojila, Razdan pass, Sadhna pass, Sinthan top and Mughal Road during 15th Nov. Tourists/Trekkers/travellers are advised to plan accordingly,” he added.
The upper reaches, including Pir Ki Gali, Gulmarg, Doodhpathri, Sonamarg, Keran, Machil, Gurez, Drass, Zojila, Matayan, Gumri, Shaitani Nallahand Sinton Top, experienced fresh snowfall, leading to a considerable drop in temperature.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar was below normal by 14.9°C. and minimum temperature 4.2°C. Qazigund recorded maximum 17.8°C and minimum of minus 1.2°C. Pahalgam recorded a low of 13.4°C and 5.1°C. Gulmarg recorded a low of 1.7°C.
Due to snowfall in higher regions, cold winds have swept across the Kashmir valley.
The Bandipora-Gurez has been closed for traffic due to fresh snowfall and traffic on Srinagar-Jammu highway remained normal on the hours. Snowfall began on Razdan Top early this morning, and in order to ensure safety of travellers the road has been temporarily closed.
A police traffic spokesman said that from the past 24 hours, there was slow movement observed on NH-44 due to breakdown of 03 HMVs, single lane traffic at Dalwas, Mehad and between Marog & Kishtwari Pather.
“ LMVs Passenger, private Cars/HMVs shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) viz from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban for road condition,” he said.
The subject to fair weather and good road condition, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
“Vehicular movement (only LMVs) on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road shall be allowed from both sides viz from Anantnag towards Kishtwar and vice versa. These vehicles shall be allowed from Daksum and Chingam (Chatroo) between 0900 hrs to 1500 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timing,” he added.
On Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road, LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar at 0700 hrs. to 1130 hrs. Similarly, LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 1330 hrs to 1900 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timing.
“Vehicular movement (LMVs followed by HMVs upto 10 tyre) on Mughal road shall be allowed from both sides viz. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) at 0700 hrs. upto 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut of timing,” the spokesman said.
