Jammu, Nov 12: For her splendid show in Senior Women’s T20 Trophy this season, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association’s (JKCA’s) experienced campaigner and explosive batter, Rubia Syed got the National Selectors’ nod and earned a place in the prestigious Women’s T20 Challengers Trophy to begin on November 17 at Ranchi in Jharkhand.
She will represent India ‘A’ team to be led by Harleen Deol of Punjab in this Trophy, the league phase of which will conclude on November 25, 2024.
She emerged as the second top scorer all over India in the league phase of the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy with 93 off 51 balls against minnows Mizoram and 78 off 58 balls against formidable Tamil Nadu as her best scores. She also contributed 24 off 19 against Odisha, 17 off 18 against Mumbai and 12 off 15 against Gujarat.
The right-handed middle-order batter has been around for a long time and has performed well for J&K across the formats.
Rubia is a class act when on song and an exceptional batter in women’s cricket and has a mastery in the art of butchering any kind of bowling attack.
However, Rubia is yet to land a Women’s Premier League (WPL) contract. The tournament could open the doors for her to make an impression for herself before the upcoming WPL Auction.
Last year Rubia was called for selection trials by Gujarat for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and this year she attended the Mumbai Indians selection trials Camp for (WPL).
Interestingly, Rubia is the only J&K batter to have hit a century in the Senior Women One-Dayers. She also has the ability to bowl with a good pace and wobble the ball both ways.
Member-Administration JKCA Brig Anil Gupta, Member Cricket Operations and Development JKCA, Sh Mithun Manhas and Member Legal Affairs JKCA, Advocate Sunil Sethi congratulated Rubia for this achievement.
