JAMMU, Nov 05: BJP’s first-time MLA from RS Pura-Jammu South Assembly Constituency, Dr. Narinder Singh Raina, has emphasized that his topmost priority is to secure Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Displaced Persons (DPs) of the region.
Raina, while speaking to Rising Kashmir, expressed concern over the long-standing issues faced by the people in his constituency but reaffirmed that his main focus would be on ensuring that DPs receive the ST status. “If Paharis can get ST status, why not the DPs?” Raina said.
“This is my top priority, and I will approach the concerned authorities, including the central government, to ensure DPs get their due rights,” he added.
Raina further recalled that he had promised his constituents during his campaign to fight for the ST status for DPs. He also discussed the various issues facing the RS Pura-Jammu South Assembly Constituency, including water shortages, high electricity bills, lack of playfields, inadequate higher secondary schools, and poor healthcare services.
“I met the Health Secretary and requested the opening of a Dialysis Hospital in RS Pura to address the kidney treatment needs of my constituency,” Raina shared.
He also addressed the issue of frequent flooding caused by nallahs in Gangyal and Digiana, promising to work on a roadmap to alleviate the problem during the rainy season.
Raina mentioned that areas like Lalyal and Khadwal in RS Pura-Jammu South do not have higher secondary schools, which forces students to travel long distances for education. He committed to working with authorities to establish higher secondary schools in these areas.
Regarding the ongoing water crisis in places like Chowadhi and its surrounding regions, Raina assured that he would push for immediate solutions to ensure a steady water supply.
Raina expressed concern over excessive power bills and vowed to fight for concessions for the residents of his constituency, aiming to bring relief to the people of RS Pura-Jammu South.
