Pulwama, Oct 13 : Jammu and Kashmir National Conference vice president and party’s nominated Chief Minister candidate, Omar Abdullah, held a key meeting with the Scientists and Teachers’ Association (SSTA) of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K) to discuss pressing issues related to agricultural education, research, and development.
The meeting aimed to foster stronger collaboration between the government and the agricultural education sector, with a focus on enhancing innovation, empowering educators and researchers, and addressing the challenges faced by the farming community.
During the discussion, Omar Abdullah emphasized the critical role of research and innovation in transforming the region’s agricultural landscape.
He assured the association of his government’s commitment to strengthening agricultural education, increasing research funding, and creating opportunities for young scientists and students. He also highlighted the importance of adopting new technologies, climate-resilient farming techniques, and improving extension services to help farmers increase productivity and adapt to changing environmental conditions.
Prof. Javeed Ahmad Mugloo, President of the Scientists and Teachers’ Association, and his team raised concerns regarding research funding, faculty development, and the need for greater collaboration between SKUAST-K and the government. They also proposed new initiatives to improve the quality of agricultural education and research at the university.
Omar Abdullah reassured Prof. Mugloo and his team of his government’s full support in improving the education and research infrastructure at SKUAST-K. He emphasized the importance of agriculture to the region’s economic development and affirmed that his government would prioritize addressing the challenges faced by the academic and scientific community.
The meeting concluded with a shared vision of strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s agricultural sector through education, innovation, and government-university partnerships. Both parties expressed optimism that through continued collaboration, the region could become a leader in agricultural research and development.
