Pulwama, Sept 18: Ghulam Qadir Wani, Panel Head of the banned organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), reaffirmed his faith in Indian democracy on Wednesday, emphasising the need to resolve all issues within its framework.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir at his residence in Gusoo village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, after casting his vote at a local polling station, Wani stressed the importance of democracy in addressing regional concerns.
“Globally, it is believed that democracy is the solution to all issues, and they have to be resolved within its ambit,” Wani said.
He further said that people’s participation in elections strengthens the democratic fabric of the country.
“We are happy to contribute to the strengthening of democracy,” he added, urging that the democratic process should be encouraged and citizens should be allowed to vote freely and fairly.
Wani said that previous parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir were conducted in a free and fair manner.
He expressed hope that the ongoing assembly elections would also be transparent, ensuring peace and progress in the region.
The Jamaat leader underlined that the region has suffered significantly and that participating in the democratic process is crucial for political stability.
Wani also emphasised the need to eradicate social evils like drug abuse and corruption.
“We wish to see peace, stability, and justice and it for these reasons we participated in the elections,” he said.
He mentioned that any alliance his organisation forms with political parties would be based on principles that prioritise these agenda points.
Wani encouraged voters to exercise their right to vote for any candidate they choose and advised them to hold elected representatives accountable, ensuring they work to fight social evils and deliver justice, especially for the youth.
