Srinagar, Sept 16: G.M. Shaheen, President of the Janata Dal (United), has issued a fervent appeal to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the Government of India, urging them to take decisive action on two pressing issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement released earlier today, Shaheen called for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, a status it held before August 2019 when it was reorganized into two Union Territories. He argued that reestablishing statehood would not only address political grievances but also foster economic development and ensure better governance in the region. Shaheen emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir’s unique cultural and historical context warranted a return to its previous administrative status, which he believes would help in restoring normalcy and stability in the region.
Shaheen’s appeal extended to another critical issue – the release of innocent prisoners held in Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted concerns regarding the detention of individuals who, according to various reports and human rights organizations, are believed to be wrongfully imprisoned. The JD(U) leader stressed that ensuring justice and upholding human rights should be a priority for the government, and he called for a thorough review of these cases to expedite the release of those unjustly held.
