Baramulla, Dec 06: The Associated Hospital of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla conducted a one-day Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Awareness Program, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).
The event attracted participation of around 150 attendees.
Under the patronage of Dr. (Prof.) Ruby Reshi, the Principal of GMC Baramulla, the program aimed to underscore the crucial importance of acquiring basic life-saving skills for individuals both within and outside the medical field.
Prof. Ruby emphasized the significance of learning CPR as a skill that holds the potential to save lives in emergency situations.
Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, the Medical Superintendent of Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla, played a pivotal role in ensuring the necessary infrastructure and manpower were in place for the smooth execution of the program.
The event began with an online address by NBEMS President Dr. Abhijat Sheth, who reiterated the importance of learning CPR to prevent young cardiac deaths.
National-level experts, Dr. Sanjeev Mittal and Dr. Debasis Dhar from NBEMS, demonstrated CPR techniques.
Subsequently, hands-on training was provided to participants by GMC experts, including Dr. Afak Sherwani, Senior Consultant General Surgery, and Dr. Yasir Bashir, Assistant Professor General Medicine.
Comprehensive presentations on Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support enriched participants’ understanding of life-saving techniques.
At the conclusion of the event, participants were awarded digital certificates of participation endorsed by NBEMS.
The overall coordination of the program was overseen by Dr. Waseem Iqbal, Assistant Professor Pediatrics and Nodal Officer DNB Courses GMC Baramulla, ensuring the seamless execution of the event and providing practical knowledge to handle emergency situations effectively.
Dr. Ruby Reshi expressed gratitude towards NBEMS for their collaboration, emphasizing GMC Baramulla’s commitment to hosting such events in the future.
Dr. Parvaiz said that the hospital plans to organize regular Basic Life Support and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Awareness programs for all employees, particularly newcomers, to impart this life-saving skill.
