GDC Vijaypur celebrates International Youth Day 2024

Samba, Aug 28: The Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College Vijaypur in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society hosted a series of engaging activities to highlight the theme of the year. The event featured a painting competition and a debate competition, both aimed at encouraging young minds to express their perspectives and creativity.
Program started with the welcome address by Prof. Poonam Kundan (Convener, Red Ribbon Club). She briefed students about the objective of celebrating International Youth Day. She further highlighted the key connection between digitization and accelerating the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the crucial contributions of young people in this transformative process.
The painting competition allowed students to visually interpret the theme of International Youth Day, showcasing their artistic talents and perspectives. Meanwhile, the debate competition provided a forum for students to articulate their views and engage in thought-provoking dialogue. Nearly 20 students participated in the painting competition. First position was secured by Kavita Anuragi of Semester V, second position was secured by Ranjit Kaur of Semester III, third position was achieved by Pooja of Semester V and consolation prize was attained by Anshita of Semester V. The competition was adjudged by Prof. Ritu Bhagat (HOD Education) and Prof. Meetu Sharma (HOD Geography).
In the debate competition, First position was attained by Rupaank Aryan of Semester V, Second position was achieved by Riya Changotra of Semester V and third position was secured by Sharda Devi of Semester V.The competition was adjudged by Prof. Ritu Bhagat (HOD Education) and Prof. Naseem Choudhary (HOD English).
Dr. Vandana Verma,Principal of the College, provided an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of youth involvement in societal issues and the value of creative expression. Her address set a positive tone for the day, motivating students to actively participate and voice their opinions.
The competition was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan (Convener, Red Ribbon Club) and co-coordinated by Prof. Ritu Bhagat, Dr. Naseem Chowdhary and Prof. Meetu Sharma. Prizes and certificates were distributed to all the participants and winners of the Painting and Debate competition.
